AI Biweekly: Trending StyleGAN Raises Concerns; AI Applications in the Finance Industry
StyleGAN is an open-source, hyperrealistic human face generator with easy-to-use tools and models. An Uber engineer has now used StyleGan to create the website ThisPersonDoesNoteExist.com, which generates a new fake face every time the top page is refreshed. This site is trending, but the tech behind it not without controversy. GANs (Generative Adversarial Networks) are one of the most interesting technologies in Artificial Intelligence and Computer Vision. GANs have, however, also been used to build "deepfakes" in which individuals' faces are realistically superimposed on target videos, effectively making them appear to be another person -- and that other person is very often appearing in a porn film.

Advanced analytics tools are being increasingly used within healthcare organizations to extract insights from data in order to provide an improved patient experience and reduce costs. Their widespread use has however highlighted the importance of effectively managing clinical records and individual health data. SaaS companies active in this field are undertaking strategic actions to address the issue. Over the past two weeks Johns Hopkins Medicine cooperated with Nuance Communication in employing Computer-Assisted Physician Documentation (CAPD) solutions to present physicians with real-time advice for diagnoses; while 3M invested US$1 billion to acquire M*Modal's cloud AI technology. Both moves are focused on improving documentation accuracy and boosting operational efficiency.

Facebook Tests AR Adverts in Its News Feed Facebook is working with a select group of advertisers to create augmented reality ads for its News Feed. When users activate an ad's tap-to-try AR capability it can display for example how a pair of glasses would look on their face via the user's webcam and screen. Facebook says it also intends to expand shopping support in Instagram Stories. July 10th -- NVIDIA Collaborates with Daimler and Bosch to Develop Robotaxi Fleets. NVIDIA, Daimler and Bosch announce a partnership to develop on-call, fully automated and driverless taxis.
